Hi Bronte
We've met briefly several times since then I think mostly when I'm with Signe of Scandilicious. I do love Scandikitchen, in fact am beginning to wonder if there is some Scandi blood in me somewhere as I have become of a bit of a Norwegian breakfast fan with brown cheese high up my list of choices.
Maybe I should run a whole series posts called 'Eat your way around Scandiland with ScandiKitchen' ;0

Well, well, hello - we meet again! I was the lady who served you when you bought all of this (I actually remember) and I'm just sitting here googling Norwegian Food to get inspiration for a blog post about Eurovision. And so I saw your blog entry. thanks for that - and glad you had a nice breakfast.

I hope that next time you have to cook from a Scandi Country that you pick Sweden or Denmark and we can be more inventive with the selection!

Bye for now

I Can't believe you bought leverpostei! I work in a Norwegian barnehage (kindergarten) and my kids eat this stuff EVERYDAY on their slices of wheat bread for breakfast AND lunch! I think it smells a lot like cat food, but they love it and it has tons of iron, which is good for growing kids, right?

I think your quest to eat a traditional Norwegian breakfast in the UK is quite noteworthy. Not only is it adventurous, it wasn't cheap (I know first hand how much meat and cheese cost here!), and I'm glad you tried more than one type of brown cheese.

Thanks for the fun read!
-Siri
(The former Transplanted Baker)

It's a quite authentic Norwegian breakfast. You'd usually have regular brown bread (and/or crispbread) with it.

The flatbread is nice with butter and sour cream, or thin slices of cured ham. It is usually eaten with hot food such as fish, soup or stew.

As for the brown cheese, it comes in several varieties, the stongest flavoured ones are based on goat's milk. It is not, strictly, a cheese, it is a whey product, the brown color and sweetness is the caramelized sugar of the milk.

I checked with my boyfriend who is Norwegian and apparently the lamb salami you had is produced close to Stjordal where he grew up, so yes it is Norwegian and your breakfast is therefore 100% genuine, yay :) I also mentioned the nutella thing and he got excited and started shouting, as it is according to him 'The best thing ever invented'. :)

I'm soooo pleased Norway won and I'm trying another Norwegian dish right now to celebrate!

Su-Lin: the flatbread is really thin like a piece of paper. Very crisp. I'm trying to check the ingredients there seems to be at least 3 flours in it. You must try brown cheese but its a love/hate thing mostly.

Foodrambler: oh yes very bad!

'Norwegian connection': thanks for the extra tips - as I have a huge box of flatbread I'll be able to try it with other dishes perhaps a lapskaus first.

Canelvr: I have got some cloudberry jam but it came direct from Norway so fell foul of M25 rule. Will blog when I try it. I'm more of a savoury breakfast person usually.

Kattebelletje: Thanks for the congrats am celebrating with rommegrot experiment.

Chris: gosh didn't know there was a prize - v excited now thanks :)
