Thanks for all the comments. I had great fun cooking this dish and it really was very tasty. Very different to the regular Chile we are used to in the UK. I'm going to be cooking it again and trying more Mexican things.
Mango/Fran: I'll look out for the fresh tomatillos soon and try those maybe try growing them next year, though it sounds like even in London they won't fully ripen unless its a really hot summer.
Ample Cook: The swap was great and I'm hoping to be able to do it again.

Lovely post, Linda! I especially enjoyed the shopping commentary – and empathise with your ingredient hunt. Final result looks most impressive and delicious. I grew tomatillos on the lottie last year but they were late in and didn't grow much beyond marbles.

Wow, Linda, GREAT post and the end result looks terrific! Your chosen accompaniments are perfect and you did a fantastic job of substituting ingredients. It's probably the salsa that made it spicier than the tomatillos (which aren't hot at all) but I sure can't blame you for not buying 6# of them! LOL

What a lovely way to introduce the Chilli Verde.

I grew tomatillos once here in the greenhouse, they were not easy to grow this far up north, so I shlepped the rst of the seeds to my mothe in Wales and she had no probs growing the outside. I think she turned them into a chutney.

I have never been to Borough Market, but must go oneday, esp now that you've informed that the Cool Chile Co has a stall there. I do love my spices!
